Leading prepaid cards across two countries, and the roadmap that shipped them.

Design lead for the prepaid cards line of business across the US and Argentina, managing two designers. I also took on PM work for Argentina when my product manager was stretched thin.

The mobile flow supported customers registering a card from a store and customers ordering one online for the first time.

Challenge

The problem

Customers couldn’t sign up for a new prepaid card online. They had to buy one in a store first, then go online to register it.

I used the launch as an opportunity to improve registration for both paths: customers registering a card bought in-store and customers signing up for one online for the first time. I simplified the flow and reduced the number of steps for both.

One entry point, two clear paths. After entering an email address, customers could register a card they already owned or begin ordering a new one online.

Responsive experience

Mobile first, with the same flow on desktop

Mobile remained the primary experience. On desktop, the same steps use the wider canvas to keep progress visible beside the active form without changing the underlying sequence.

“Amanda helped us launch a new product 0 to 1 and was a great partner to discuss experience strategies and help execute detailed product design.”

Role

What I did

  1. Rebuilt onboarding at scale, reducing time on task and simplifying the information architecture for 2,000 users holding $2M in card balances.
  2. Adapted registration for Argentina after the US launch, working with a bilingual content designer on translations and cultural differences between the American English and Argentinian Spanish experiences.
  3. Moved the prepaid card product from Sketch to Figma, recreating its design system in Figma with help from two other product designers.
  4. Unblocked Design, Product, and Engineering with Jira workflow improvements that outlived the projects.
  5. Took on PM responsibilities for Argentina when my product manager was stretched thin: prioritizing features, shaping the roadmap, and leading sprint planning.

I also redesigned the prepaid cards website alongside this work.

“She has an innate ability to keep complex projects on track, maintaining clear documentation and ensuring that everyone is informed and aligned. Her ability for structuring workflows, organizing assets, and creating efficient systems has helped the team be more productive.”

Next on the roadmap

Improving the logged-in experience

The next phase extended the work beyond registration. I explored three concepts for a new logged-in dashboard and recommended this direction. The work was still in progress at the end of my time at Western Union.
